First of all, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Denis Caron. I’ve been kicking around in the world of Internet Marketing now for a couple of years. I’m not a gazzillionaire, trillionaire, nor billionaire – Heck, not even a millionaire. Truthfully, I’d be very happy earning six figures, but I’m a not-yet-thaire, either.

So why am I writing this, and more to the point, why should you even bother to read it? You see, like so many others, I wanted to make a living with/at online marketing and the lifestyle that it brings. No, I’m not talking about the mouth watering, starry eyed, over hyped dream lifestyle of the “rich and lamous”. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with money. But it’s my belief that money cannot be your “soul” motivation and goal. If it is, you will lose your humanity somewhere along the way and one day awaken and wonder what happened to your morals and scruples. And remember, the bigger you get, be careful of the fact that you will see your customers less as people, and more as simply statistics – Funnels, upsells subscribers, lists, downsells, launches, adswaps, JVs…You need to define what it is that YOU want. At my age, and temperament, all I really want is to enjoy my life with my family and not have to trade my time for money anymore. Now I’m enjoying what I’m doing, and by gosh, I’m makin’ money at it too! What makes YOU happy?

Like so many others, in the early days, I spent the obligatory thousands of dollars on crappy courses, software, and such material, hoping that the next big thing would contain the answers and the path to IM enlightenment. Alas, it did not.

The next stage of my IM evolution was the “Mentor” stage. One such course with a well known marketer turned out to be simply a large group of people who paid for the “privilege” of promoting and marketing this individual to the world. This “Newbie to Riches” course left the vast majority in the dust, feeling even more confused and lost than when they started. Another Mentor course was an overpriced basic marketing course that couldn’t really delve into any details due to time constraints. And so on and so on…I later found much of the same material from other sources for free.

So why wasn’t all this stuff clicking for me? Where were my riches and my “Life’s a Beach” t-shirt?

Well, only after much soul searching did I finally discover that I was in a constant state of turmoil with myself and was probably in a self sabotaging state – because (get ready) I finally figured out that I really didn’t like the IM Info Product niche. And there was the problem…When most people start out, they begin in the IM Info Product niche. The Guru tells them that the fastest path to easy riches is to become an affiliate for all of his great products and then fortune will soon be theirs, if they promote the ever loving hell out of all the Guru’s products. So the “blind” Newbie goes forth, out into the IM world and tries to sell other “blind” Newbies on the Guru’s materials…

The purpose of this post is not a rant about IM (there’s plenty of time for that later) – So let me make a long story short…I was so disillusioned with IM Info niche, that I was close to giving up and took a long sabbatical. Then in a cathartic episode, I ended up writing an e-Book, titled, Internet Marketing-The Naked Truth, skewing and parodying everything about Internet Marketing that I’ve been involved in during the past couple of years…Ahhhh, now that felt good.

Fast forward – I’ve for the most part, left the “How to make money by selling information to people on how to make money” niche and market numerous products in various other niches. I’ve since been asked to market a provocative and controversial, non IM, e-Book that I’ll tell you about when it’s time.

So to wrap up today’s post- I’m having fun again! I no longer take the IM Info niche so seriously. I can say and do anything I want, for I need to please no one, but you and myself. The bulk of my earnings do not come from this niche. I’ve got a lot of great humorous, yet informative posts and information planned for the future here. I’m just going to tell it like it is, but not in any angry vindictive way, because that’s just spewing energy sucking negativity. Instead it’s going to be fun and light but like a laser – focused and to the point, for we’re all busy people.

Hi Everyone:

In the offline world, this would be known as a “soft” opening. I’ve got the new site up, but there are some tweaks that need to be done. Pages, product and content needs to be added before I officially “open” as well. You’ll be able to watch this blog grow before your very eyes. So please bear with me, and when I’m fully functional, there will be plenty to see and do here. AAAHHHHHH-These blasted blocks mysteriously moved on me. This isn’t how they were set up-(help-my margins-what happened to my margins? I sound like a stock trader). I know-It’s that guy in the picture. Kinda creepy-isn’t he? Do his eyes follow you too? I’ve been alone here working on this too long……..

Some may find the following post a little crude or (gasp) even offensive. It’s all in fun. Read it at your own discretion.

Yesterday I overheard a friend call someone else an “idiole”. I had to chuckle. Why? Well, it was only a short while ago that I explained the term to my friend and now he gladly accepts the word for his own use. You see, it’s a word that I made up…

Many times, while one is behind the wheel of his/her auto, another driver just does something really stupid. When I was first learning to drive, my father used to say, “Remember, everyone on the road is an idiot, except you. Drive accordingly.” Great advice, even to this day, and I’ll be passing that tidbit on to my children as well.

Anyway-one day, with two of our youngest in the car, another driver did some real bonehead move. Now I’m not one to use profanity, but sometimes the situation just calls for it. Hence my dilemma…I was ready to scream a profanity laced diatribe at the bozo, but with two kids in the car, I couldn’t. What was a parent to do?…

So I muttered “idiole”. It’s a nonsensical (thus not profanity) word that exemplifies the two separate and distinct characteristics, that each, by themselves, do not fully explain how I felt about that person and his action.

Idi-ole…A combination of “idiot” and “a**hole”. It’s a fun little word to use when just one of the other words aren’t enough for your particular situation. Only problem-now my thirteen year old uses it too. “But Dad, I’m not swearing. It’s not even a word.” Oh man, it came back to bite me anyway…

So folks, someday when you’re out and about and you hear the word “idiole”, you’ll know it went viral. But at least you’ll know that-

You heard it here first…

That’s right! You heard me…

Ya got a hot date for tonight. Good for you! What’s the last thing you do before you walk out the door? No, not that-you check yourself out in the mirror. Why? Do your socks match? Are you buttoned or zipped up? Is there any foreign substance on your cheek or chin? What about in your nose? All these tasks are done for one reason-Because (say it with me) -You only get one chance to make a first impression.

It’s the same with your online presence. So go ahead-google yourself-Yes, right now…I won’t peek…I promise…I’ll be here when you get back…Well, how was it? What did you think? Was it everything that you’d thought it would be?

Everyone needs to do a google search on themselves -First your name. Where does it come up on Google? Why does someone else with the same name come out on top of you? Answer: Content. Next google your blog or website (remember-google it, not enter the URL). This is the important part-Not only does your name come up, but whatever text comes after your name or blog name comes next. GET IT? This is prime real estate baby. You only get about three seconds for someone to decide if they want to click on your site or move on. You gotta “make the sale” right then and there. Make sure that your blog name is relevant to your site. And just as important-the text that follows-your “tagline”- hammers home the point. Use keywords in the tagline.

I learned very quickly that I had a useless tagline. What I thought was a cool arty little number (although it is cool and I like it) was really a better fit as the heading on the “About Me” Page where it belongs and not in the most important of spaces. After the blog name-it said nothing. It gave no indication what someone could expect. It gave no sense of urgency, or even a reason why someone would want to click. Use the opportunity you are given to make a difference. “To click or not to click. That will be the question”.

Look at yourself with a most critical eye. See what others are doing. What do you like about their sites. What are they doing right? What are they doing wrong? Then go back to your site, with a better appreciation and a fresh critical look. Is your site boring? Is the content drab? Is it schizophrenic? Is it just a page of ads and flashing banners? If your site doesn’t stand up to your new higher expectations-Then change it. You’ve just raised the bar on yourself and it will make a better experience for all.

You may only get one chance…They may never return…

Time is just zooming by…I have my own business where I work seven days a week, I’ve been sick for three days, where I couldn’t even look at the monitor, my wife totaled her car (everyone’s fine, just not the car) along with the Christmas tsunami washing over us. So all good intentions were squelched by the real world.

But now, for those in the know, the bear has gotta go…

I feel like a tortoise with lead boots running a marathon, choking on the dust of all the jackrabbits, while my only view being a bunch of fluffy white tails far ahead. Need-huff-relevant-puff-content-cough,cough…

For the background story line, check out the Internet Marketing  with Alex Jeffreys Page. On this page, we’re going to be moving at a rapid pace. So I suggest that you check back here often, because you don’t want to miss out, on all that’s going on through the portal of Denis Caron…

First things first-We’re currently having a traffic competition going on among the students of Alex Jeffreys. The contest is to see who can get the most traffic to their blog. The winning prize is $1000.00. Although I am not delusional thinking that I’m going to win it this time around, everyone wins by getting active and creative as to how to bring traffic to their blog. So here are some of the steps I have taken/am taking so far:

• Get more active in the student community with comments and links
• Create worthwhile content and thus reasons to visit and re-visit my blog-Engage, Inform, and Entertain my valued readers
• Outsource tasks that I don’t want/have time  to do (blog mechanics), so I can spend quality time on creating and marketing my blog
• Get myself a belated Christmas gift-a digital camcorder (perhaps just a flip?). Anyone have any suggestions? Have to start making videos…
• Check out Traffic Geyser
• Join outside forums, discussion groups and other member programs. Gotta get the word out…
• Implement my Plan-The original idea of using  my name with “portal”, is because I have many varied interests. My other professional fields(stained glass artisan, musician, unpublished writer) are all notoriously know for NOT bringing in much income. That’s why I gravitated toward Internet Marketing. I can still do all those other endeavors and make a great income as well. It’s all about quality of life-quality and time to enjoy doing what you love doing. Entice those people, who also are searching for a better way of life to my blog, not just people interested in Internet Marketing. I truly believe that I, along with this wonderful community of caring individuals, once we apply what we are learning from, and with, Alex Jeffreys, will be unstoppable.
